ECU testing & repair service illustration

The engine control unit (ECU), often called the computer box, gets blamed for many faults it didn’t cause. Low voltage, a poor earth, a corroded connector or a damaged wire can produce the same symptoms as a failed ECU.

We start by testing the ECU’s power, earth and communication circuits and scanning the vehicle’s systems. If the ECU itself is faulty, we explain the options, including repair, replacement and the coding or immobiliser matching a replacement unit may need.

WHEN TO GET HELP

DOES THIS
SOUND FAMILIAR?

  • Vehicle will not start
  • Recurring engine warning lights
  • ECU communication faults
  • Suspected computer box problem

What the service covers

  • ECU and control-module fault assessment
  • Power, wiring and communication checks
  • ECU repair and coding enquiries
  • A repair plan based on the diagnosis
An ECU-related code does not prove that the ECU has failed. We assess the symptoms and confirm what can be completed on site; specialised electronic work may require a separate repair stage.

Call-out availability, diagnostic fees and any repair costs are confirmed for your vehicle and location. Please ask before booking.

Common questions

Does an ECU fault code mean the ECU is broken?

Not necessarily. Many ECU-related codes are caused by power supply, wiring or sensor faults. Testing those first can avoid an expensive replacement that does not fix the problem.

Can I fit a second-hand ECU?

Often not without extra work. Many ECUs are matched to the vehicle’s immobiliser and must be coded. A used unit with the wrong part number or software may not run the car.

Is ECU repair done on site?

Testing and many checks can be done at your vehicle. Repairs inside the ECU itself may need a separate repair stage. We confirm this once the fault has been assessed.
